Tessian’s The State of Data Loss Prevention report suggests that 84% of IT professionals agree that data loss prevention is more challenging when employees are working from home. And 58% of employees also think information is less secure when working remotely.

With millions of people working from home during the pandemic, and a transformation of attitudes about remote work as a result, the issues that Tessian raises in its report will grow in importance.

And it’s not only data breaches we’re worried about. VPN GEEKS says 80% of social media users are concerned about their data sharing to advertisers and businesses.

Technology has been a vital enabler of working from home (WFH) around the world in 2020. Employees of all ages agree with their top tech concern when WFH is how it makes their companies more vulnerable to data breaches.

In a recent survey by Lenovo, 72% of employees are “extremely” “very” or “somewhat” concerned about protecting their personal data on their work devices.

The tech giants have become trillion-dollar businesses by manipulating us using our personal information.

Global Research Report also states that employees of all ages agree their top tech-specific concern is how it makes their companies more vulnerable to data breaches.

Let’s Have a Look at Compliance Risks and Fines

Where the EU block has dominance in GDPR, it also recognizes data privacy as the fundamental human right. Two data protection authorities (DPAs) levied fines on three multinational companies in 2019.

Due to GDPR praise globally, Facebook, Google, and Apple CEO called to have a “Comprehensive Privacy Legislation” on the federal level in the U.S.

“We want to adopt many of the protections under GDPR but we also want to streamline those compliance requirements that under GDPR are quite burdensome,” Denise Zheng, VP of Technology and Innovation Policy at the Business Roundtable, said in an interview in Washington last month.

According to PWC, 44% of CEO respondents rank data privacy among the top 3 policies most impactful to their business.

As everyone has the fundamental right for his data privacy policy information. People deserve it to be in control of their own personal data information.

So what should be done even if the enterprise compliance and data privacy policy are at stake?

What Does It Allow To An Enterprise Level Administrator?

What Manetu does is, we allow our enterprise clients to come in and log into an administrative portal. This administrative portal allows them based on the clients to actually look at exactly what connectors we have made available to them.

So, in this case, they may have an Excel connector, they may have certain types of connectors which basically look at their storage infrastructure. And we can go in and run machine learning algorithms against that storage infrastructure.

Whether it be Excel files whether it be pdf files, we identify with our machine learning algorithms where there might be P.I.I information sitting and hidden. We have other connectors in this particular scenario which is Microsoft Dynamics, which is also a CRM.

You may have P.I.I information sitting in your Outlook databases. So, if we go to the Outlook database you may look at and see the different types of information in your global database you may carry on a particular consumer in your personal database. You may carry certain types of information for consumers.

We (Manetu CPM) allow the administrator to come in and pick exactly which attributes out of the fields they want to make visible directly to the consumer.

Now the consumer has to just sit there in this scenario. The consumer has that data available immediately in the Salesforce connector. You can see the administrator coming in and picking exactly which fields they believe should be P.I.I information.

And they can show that to the consumer directly. We can run our machine learning algorithms against these target systems' salesforce or outlook and we can further identify which attributes we believe to be P.I.I.

And again the control is still in the administrator’s hands, the swagger connector gives you access to almost any open API based system. So, whether you want to do ORACLE or MySQL, or any other database we create custom connectors all the time for our clients.

Once you have done this right you can onboard data from all of these target systems and you can bring those data into place. So, if you look at any given consumer account that you as an entrepreneur hold on a consumer, you can look at exactly what you hold on that particular consumer. Manetu becomes your unified data repository. If you do, this tells you exactly where that data is coming from and what data you hold on any particular entity.

What a Consumer Or Any Employee Can Do?

Let’s flip to what a consumer interface may look like. So, a consumer may come in and log in to their profile and they may look to see exactly what information a particular provider has, the information that this provider holds on them within which databases.

Now further the consumer also has the ability in Manetu CPM to see what policies they have agreed to. So, they can see whether they have consented to a particular policy that a particular provider might have provided.

For Example

The consumer can also come in and say: “What if I’m looking at some of this data?”.
They may say: “Hey my assistant’s name is actually changed or this is incorrect”, or “It’s not Jimmy Cash it’s Johnny Cash.
So, if it’s Johnny Cash, then the consumer has the ability to go in and edit that data directly and save it.

When they save that right this actually gets reflected within the enterprise database. The Manetu control system immediately does it. So, if we simply refresh that particular page and we go back there we will notice that particular field.

More Control Over Your Data

The consumer has the ability to go into the activity log and they can see that there is an activity that has been logged here that says that the assistant’s name has changed. And this has actually been notarized with hedera and on the public ledger and it’s been verified.

The consumer can click on this and this brings you directly to the hedera interface and it shows you the hashed value that got generated because of this assistance name change.

This hash value by the way if you were to run this, the consumer has the confidence that a particular action was notarized on a public ledger which obviously that particular transaction was validated.

Only you were able to get that transaction when consent was achieved by you. A majority of the nodes and you know all the fun things that you guys do with it and that gets reflected. So now the consumer that the particular transaction had occurred. The transaction is reflected here within the service provider interface.

So if we come back to the service provider interface from the consumer interface, the service provider has the ability to notice exactly what activities had happened in a certain time frame.

They can see if the service provider administrator wants to see what transactions had happened on their system or a regulator was to come to the service provider and ask for certain logs that they want to keep.

These are the logs that the service provider can point to and show that this particular consumer came in and modified this particular attribute assistant name from this value to this value. And actually, it was notarized on a public ledger right.

What Does A Service Provider Have?

Additionally what we (Manetu CPM) also do is to provide the service provider with the ability to look at graphically where certain consumer data comes from.

They can dive into that particular country, they can look at the consumer within that country and what data they hold on them from a country perspective.

They can add a new policy for sharing test results with quests. They can even define exactly the effective dates.
